Career Goals and Opportunities

Choosing a career is a major life decision because you will probably be spending 20 to 30 years doing it. It is not easy. Therefore, choose one that you will enjoy. Here are some questions you might want to ponder. Am I only choosing this career for the money, or am I excited and enthusiastic about working in this field? There is more to choosing a career than taking a battery of test.

First you must decide what your interest are and look for careers that match them. Start preparing for your career while you are in high school,Contribute to the process by working with a school counselor and being involved in the process. No one knows better that you what your passion and interest are. You must have the foresight to use your time to prepare for your career effectively.

Once, you decide what career path you want to take start your research. Go to the Human Resource Offices for Federal, State, County, City, and the private sector. Currently government entities are having financial problems, therefore you must find the jobs that they will always need employees for. My secret method is locate the job that matches your interest and passion. Find out what the qualifications are for the entry level position. Structure you educational path to meet these qualifications.

While you are taking the classes to complete the qualifications needed for the chosen career, you can also increase your job value by having some experience in the career field you have selected. We have all heard this"you don't qualify for the job because you don't have the experience" You don't have the experience because you can not get the job" So you might ask, How do I gain some experience? Internships, even if they are unpaid and volunteering.

Remember, first identify your interest and passion. Second, make sure they match with your career choice. Third, do your research and participate in the process. Fourth, locate and find out the qualifications for your career. Fifth, Structure education around your career choice. Sixth, volunteer or take an internship to gain experience.

Thank you Wordscriber, this article is a further step to me entering the career I want, that of writing. I am up to the research stage having worked in a variety of other things. I trained for librarianship but discovered that automation is actually really taking over in that industry now so I have returned to my other great passion that of writing. As you can see I do enjoy it. Thank you once again your article was very useful.
