Now that you have decided to go to the flea market and make some money. There are a few things you school know. First, it is important how you choose the space that you will sell your flea market merchandise from. Second, you will need to know what you need to bring with you. Third, the way to display your items. Fourth, determining your selling price. Fifth, deciding what products you will sell.
How to Choose a Space.
Reserve your flea market space where their will be a lot of traffic. flea market entrances are usually not the best locations to select.. People like to look around before they buy and they may not come back to the area where they entered. A space next to the exits is not recommended either. Because they may have spent all the money they want to spend and they are ready to leave.
It is important to note that the best areas, at the flea market, are near snack bars, rest rooms, drinking fountains or where people constantly go back and forth. Once you get a good spot, try to reserve that same space each week. This way your customers will know where to find you when they return, or tell tell their friends and associates where you are located.
Flea market spaces are given on a first-come basis. Therefore, you want to get their early and set up at a desirable location. Although, you have a space reserved, allow yourself some time to set up your display before the gate is opened. A good gage is about an hour.
What You Need to Bring.
Your merchandise you plan to sell.. Bring folding tables, at least two. This will allow you to effectively display your items. Also, you will want to bring a comfortable folding chair, money to make change and a box to store your money (a cigar box serves nicely). If the flea market is held outdoors on a hot day you may need the protection of an umbrella. Also have a plastic sheet handy to protect your merchandise if it starts to rain.
Bring your lunch and and some water. You might decided to eat at snack bar on the premises. If possible, bring along a family member or a friend to help you. In case you may need to be leave your table to eat, go to the rest room, or walk around to look at other dealers displays. If you can not bring a family member or friend. Your might want to ask a neighboring flea marketer to watch your merchandise during your absence.
How to Display Your Items.
Make your display neat and attractive. Put similar items together. Don't crowd things into a messy pile. Blocks your display by putting larger items in the you want customers to see everything when they take a quick glance. Place jewelry on a nice cloth background and in jewelry boxes. If you sell rings make sure the sun hits them to display the different sparkling colors.
How to Determine the Selling Price
Besides what you offer, the price at which you sell your merchandise is very important. You can make a good profit for your time and investment, but you must offer customers a value for their money. You can price each item individually, or as a group collectively.
Deciding What Flea Market Products You Will Sell.
From my experience, specialty items, not usually found in retail stores are best for flea market sales. Items such as jewelry, watches, toys novelties, house wares, auto accessories, paintings, gift are potential profitable sellers. Items that turn over fast, you want to feature. On the other hand, If an item doesn't sell well, keep lowering the price until someone buys it. You wan to replace items that do not sell with good-selling items. Closeout merchandise is a good place to start. You can always start by selling those unwanted and unused items in the garage that you been planning to get rid of.
