I can not play golf but I like to watch it. It is amazing to me how the professional golfers can hit that golf ball and get it in the general area they aim for. So I decided since I can not play golf, will not be a professional golfer, therefore, I am leaving open the attending of a professional golf tournament. For now I can write about it.

When it comes to professional golf the British open is the oldest major held outside the USA. The event itself takes place every year on courses in Scotland or England where the Open features a four hole playoff for all golfers tied at the end of regulation. The open prize money has been the highest from 2002 to 2008. Its interesting to note that the open is played on the third Friday in July with the first championship first played in 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club, in Ayrshire, Scotland. It is the third major to take place each year, following The Masters and the U.S. Open, but before the PGA Championship.

When the Open became part of the PGA Tour's official schedule John Daley was the play off winner over the Italian Costantino Rocca. It has been reported that at the St Andrews in 2000, Jack Nicklaus waved farewell to the crowds, afterwards decided to play in the 2005 Open.at the Home of Golf. As you are probably aware Tiger Woods has won three Championships with two being at St Andrews in 2000 as well as 2005, while the other one was in 2006 at Hoylake.

In 2007 Pádraig Harrington of the Republic of Ireland defeated Sergio García in a four-hole playoff. In 2009, Tom Watson at The Open lead the tournament through 71 holes setting up a four-hole playoff, which he would lose by six shots to Stewart Cink. Originally, the trophy to the event's winner was the Champion's Belt, a red leather belt with a silver buckle. In 1863 a prize fund was introduced to be shared among the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place professional because there was no prize money in the first three Opens.

Interestingly the early winners were all Scottish professionals, who worked as greenkeepers, clubmakers, and caddies to supplement winnings from championships and challenge matches. Since then the Open has always been dominated by professionals, with only six victories by amateurs, all of which occurred between 1890 and 1930.

In the 2009 British Open, Stewart Cink birdied and Tom Watson he two squared off in a four-hole aggregate playoff, with Watson deflating 72nd-hole bogey leading to Cink winning the playoff and then the Open Championship.
