Spammers will try and leave tons of comments to irrelevant site links, its important to have software that will eliminate these automatically. You can also monitor comments by setting them to approval status, so that they will not be posted until you see if they are something you want on the blog.

Many believe that commenting on blogs is a good traffic strategy while others find that the traffic is not targeted enough to convert into sales. When done right commenting can be good for bloggers.
