High Heels Health During Pregnancy

By

The thing about high-heeled footwear is that it raises the heel of the wearer's foot significantly higher than the toes so when both the heel and the toes are raised equal amounts as in the case of the platform shoe. Studies show pregnancy can cause fluid buildup and swollen feet this is due to the increased weight and imbalance of pregnancy that contributes to foot stress.

Many have found that High heels tend to come in a wide variety of styles, and the heels are found in many different shapes. Some of the reasons many women have decided against wearing pumps have been due to health and practicality reasons, such as foot pain, sprains and fractures, foot deformities, including hammertoes and bunions.

Research reports that women who wear high heels frequently have a higher incidence of regenerative joint disease of the knees. Some of the reasons for this has to do with the decrease in the normal rotation of the foot which puts more stress on the knee.

Pregnancy and High Heel Health

For many women they experience leg cramping and varicose veins due to weight gain during pregnancy. It is important to learn about foot health. Studies show that two of the most common foot problems experienced include over pronation and edema. These problems can lead to pain at the heel, arch, or the ball-of-foot. So if one is having foot pronation which is the movement of the subtalar, eversion, dorsiflexion and abduction.

Some symptoms include the foot rolling on the leg inwards and the arch of the foot flattens. It is important to note that pronation is a normal part of walking and running and helps to provide shock absorption at the foot. In the case of edema the swelling is caused by fluid trapped in the tissue of the body.

It has been reported that edema happens most often in the feet, ankles, and legs. So being pregnant can cause edema in the legs as the uterus puts pressure on the blood vessels in the lower trunk of the body.

The Various Types of High Heeled Footwear Can Include:

As in the case of a round heel it is broad where the sole of the shoe is narrower at the point of contact, then with a short, slim heel with the maximum height being under 2 inches can lead to a shoe with three flat sides which form a triangle at the point of contact with the ground.

As for when the heels are noticeably narrower at the midpoint between the tall, slim heel with a minimum height of 2 inches and a diameter of more than 4 inches has a different ratio to the ground. For those who wear a thick square block heel the 2 inches of diameter and height.

The type of shoes commonly worn by professional working woman usually has a sharp square toe. To avoid foot pain you will need to purchase shoes that fit properly

So with high-heeled shoes they concentrate pressure on the toes and are major culprits for aggravating, if not causing, problems with the toes. It is true that foot problems, can also be significant even in women who regularly wear lower heels.

High heels and pregnancy issues can include: fluid buildup and swollen feet, regenerative joint disease of the knees, and some women experience leg cramping and varicose veins due to weight gain. Women who are pregnant may want to wait on wearing high hells until the baby arrives.
